SopCast : is a free to use broadcasting software. It uses the Peer to Peer (P2P) technology and thus saves you the costs of setting up a server and bandwidth for your users. The company claims that you can serve 10, 000 users with your broadband connection and a home computer. One can broadcast audio or video over a channel (which can also be done without registration) and when someone is broadcasting all you to need to be a part of the audience is the P2P player which can be downloaded here.

SopCast client can be run on Windows Vista, XP, 2000 and Linux OS. Mac users may have to wait longer to use this software. Once downloaded and installed, you can log into the client with your username or as anonymous and enjoy thousands of channels being broadcast all over the world. You can click on ‘Live Channels’ and choose from various genres that SopCast provides like Sports, Entertainment, Movies, Documentaries etc. The channel you select pops up on the small screen next to the player. You can then click on the ‘full screen’ button on the player and enjoy the channel .

Veetle :is also a free to use broadcasting software and allows broadcasting to an unlimited number of viewers with the same infrastructure as needed for a SopCast. There are two basic advantages with Veetle. One, that it opens within your web browser, so you do not need to start it up separately. The other is that, the quality of your broadcast is as good as that of an HD TV, irrespective of the computer you are using. All it requires is a good internet connection. Most Veetle broadcasts have a bit rate of 450- 900 kbps, which is not a lot considering that 512kbps is the mandatory minimum speed for a broadband connection in India.

Unlike SopCast, Veetle runs on a Mac OS as well. It can also be installed on mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone and iTouch. Veetle usually loads in seconds and lets you watch content in exceptionally high quality.
