Many are of the opinion that the Samsung Galaxy is the only suitable contender to compete with the iPad. This 7-inch, Android run, tablet has set the market on fire ever since its release. (Image from www.gizmocrave.com )
At first glance, the Samsung Tablet does look pretty impressive. Made entirely of plastic, it doesn’t have the same solid feel as the aluminium body of the iPad, but nevertheless it still feels sturdy and dense. The plastic exterior of the Tab also gives it an additional bonus of being quite light (weighing only 380gms). Like the iPad, the Galaxy Tab is also a sealed unit, giving the user no access to the battery. With contrast colors for the front and back the Galaxy Tab looks very attractive. The white smooth plastic at the back makes it an easy slide into any pocket or bag. The half inch bezel is of the perfect width to accommodate the thumb.

The Tab has a 1.0Ghz ARM processor, 512MB RAM with a SGX540 graphics processor. Internal memory might be 16 or 32 GB and can be externally extended up to 32GB using a micro SD card. The Tab has a LCD TFT screen with a 1024 X 600 resolution. Although this Samsung gadget comes without a Super AMOLED screen, performance wise it is still better than the iPad. However, when compared to its kin- the Samsung smartphone, the screen of the Galaxy Tab is very mediocre.
The 2 cameras have not really impressed a lot of people. There is a 1.3 megapixel camera on the face of the tablet intended for video calls and the one at the back is a 3 megapixel camera. As compared to its other competitors in the market, the two cameras on the Samsung Galaxy are not very impressive.
One feature which really catches your attention and is noteworthy of considering is the view angle. Unlike many other tabs available in the market- with the Samsung Galaxy Tab there is very little you need to adjust, to get a good view of the screen. The view angle of this tab is great and a perfect screen to share with your friend. Compared to the iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab does seem to have a better pixel density- so reading an e-book or just browsing a web page is much better on the Samsung Tab.
The most admirable quality in the Samsung Galaxy Tab is its battery life. When the battery life was tested- it took about 6 hours and 9 minutes to completely kill the battery with a video playback on standard resolution, 65% brightness with the Wi-Fi on. A point to note though is that when connected to a laptop via a USB port the Tablet doesn’t charge.
If you are familiar with Samsung’s Galaxy S phone series than this Android driven Galaxy Tab will pose no difficulty to use. Some like it big and some like it small- where you have a smaller tablet it has an added benefit of being portable and easy to use in one hand. But with a bigger screen- the videos and pages are more appealing. The bottom line of all this is what you really fancy- a larger or smaller screen. With so many options in the market today – you can easily afford to make your decision.
